I would say no, it's not worth paying for an SMA upgrade. It seems a little less stable than 7.2, and really didn't make a difference in the way I do things with the BrailleNote. The only reason u may want to consider upgrading is if you need language support for multiple languages. They didn't even put a what's new section in the manual like they did for 7.2! If you have 7.2, my advice would be to download the drivers if you need them for the SD card and other USB devices, and wait to see if 8.0 will be any better.

Hello.
I, personally, would go for it because it contains the concise oxford dictionary which is very useful for looking up definitions of words that you are unclear of. And, as an added feature only for the BrailleNote mPower, it supports books from Recordings for the blind and dyslexic. So if you can, get the mPower because it has all of the features. I used version 7.5 on a school's BrailleNote while mine was getting fixed, and I love it. That's my personal opinion.
Hope this helps,
Macy

actually the dictionary is a separate purchase. and, you are forgetting ssl! ks7.5 also has support4ssl!

I don't mean to sound stupid or anything, but what is SSL?

secure socket layer. it's something to do with encryption, but i don't quite get it either. <smile>

Hi.
SSL is an encryption that a lot of mail providers use for their email. I don't know much about it either, and my bn is very very unstable with this release. I was in the middle of a file, taking notes, and you know, like I was sitting there tapping away on it, and bang it just decide to sort of get stuck. I reset. Boom all that notes, all gone because I had the file open and of course it goes.

That chime is very disruptive in my oppinion, it's been in the bn since, I dont know... Since the beginning i guess, and when i do it in the middle of class (because i have to?) i dont want anyone to think i'm listening to music or something. Of course when i hear it usually I close it and reopen the case so the chime is drown out by the vellcrow, but still it's annoying and should be optional.

My cf card slot broke down and I dont wanna ask humanware to refix it. The thing just sort of has no back now. You know when you put your finger in the slot (something not worth doing) there's a back to the thing? well mine just goes up into the unit and...

So that's it, I'm screwed. Unless anyone knows another way I can get the concise oxford to work? Please please help me!

Hello there! Have you gotten a compact flash card adapter? they go in the side of the braillenote! From what it sounds like, i'd wait until 8.0 comes out. But again, that's just my advice.

Oh. didnt think of that...

Does anyone have any idea when 8.0 is going to be released?

Post 12 by Striker (Consider your self warned, i'm creative and offensive like handicap porn.) on Monday, 04-Feb-2008 19:12:10

don't know about 8.0 but they had to re-reliece ks 7.5 like 3 times so, if your not running the latest one you might want to upgrade. but if its more unstable than 7.2 than theres no way in hell I am upgrading to it. my bn crashes all the time with 7/.2 on there so why make it worse?

Post 13 by chikorita (move over school!) on Monday, 04-Feb-2008 20:02:00

actually, there were 5 public releases of 7.5, not counting any future ones if any. build 17, 18, 20, 27 and 28. grin.

oh I didn't know that. And I'm getting a quote from ULVA to see how much it would be to upgrade from 6.2

6.2? aa'aa'aa'aa'aarg!! at least $600, probably... thanks!

Yes, I've lost files quite often, often just by closing the file. Then, when I play the media files I have it crashes too. I don't mind the chime, I just deal with the noise. If they care so much, I mean the class, then their bad. It's something necessary I have to do and if they think I am listening to music, they must be really thick.

Yeah, I have a build 29 and it is a 7.5.
